Sylva Tingerides was born in Limassol, Cyprus and graduated from Lanitio Gymnasium in 1966. She studied Biochemistry at Lomonosof State University of Moscow, Russia where she obtained a Masters degree in Biochemistry (MSc Biochem.)

 

Following her graduation, she was employed as a biochemist in the private sector in Cyprus until 1977, when she established Biocheck Ltd Clinical Laboratory which she successfully runs to date. She is amongst the founders of the Cyprus Association of Clinical Laboratory Directors which she has served as president for a series of terms. She has also been a member of the Board of Registration of Clinical Laboratories (1989-1995). She is a full member of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry.

 

In 2000, she was appointed member of the National Anti-Doping Committee by KOA which she served for six consecutive years.

 

In 2007 Sylva has been registered as "European Specialist in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EurClinChem) of the European Communities Confederation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EC4) and she is now bearing the title of the European Clinical Chemist (EurClinChem).

 

Sylva is married to Nicos Tingerides, Senior Systems Analyst. They have two sons, Constantinos who is a doctor practicing in London, and Alexis who studied biochemistry he is a holder of the titles B.Sc., M.Sc., BMS (Med. Biochem.), M.Sc. Med. Micro and he currently works at the laboratory.
